Took up golf aged 12 after hitting balls in a friend's garden, Sherborne enjoyed it so much he sold his fishing gear to buy a set of his own clubs. Made his mark at the Home of Golf in 1984 when he finished as leading amateur in The Open Championship at St Andrews, turning professional the following year. Won twice on the European Tour in Spain during a career which spanned nearly 20 years before joining the Senior Tour in 2011.
